Aragona is in the province of Agrigento in the South West corner of Sicily. The town like many places in Sicily has expanded massively over the last 40 years and now has in excess of 10000 residents. The first time I visited it was in 1966. It is a typical Sicilian town. People sit outside in front of their hoses and at tables in cafes passing the time of day and people watching. Most evening people go for a passegiatta, a leisurely stroll, along the main streets of the town, stopping off for the obligatory ice cream along the way.

The Palazzo Naselli dominates the Eastern part of the town. It was built for the Prince of Aragona, Luigi Naselli in 1700. Aragona was ruled by the Naselli family until 1812. |

San Leone is a coastal town in Agrigento. It has golden sandy beaches, and is an extremely popular destination for Sicilians in the summer. It is still rare to see many people of other nationalities here. There is only one large hotel, and a number of smaller guest houses. The picture below shows a local fisherman going out for the day. |
