This is Teatro Greco, or the Greek Theatre. Built by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC, but used later by the Romans to hold gladiatorial shows, the site now hosts concerts and plays. It is open to the public to wander around at a small charge. The setting for this theatre is spectacular. The photo above shows the view inland towards the mountains and hill side towns. The photo below shows the stunning blue Mediterranean sea. Often in the distance you can see the orange lava topped peak of Mount Etna. |
