Things to Discover and Do in Cefalu
The Cathederal: It was built in 1131, the interior was restored in 1559. Worth a look? Well you can't really miss it, but yeas it is worth a look inside. From thje outside it's two matvhing towers look great set against the hilly backdrop.
The Temple of Diana and the Rocca: Set in the mountains above the town, the temple of Diana is supposedly the oldest structure still standing in sicily. Although interesting for this fact, the structure itself is not that pretty, unless of course you are in to architecture. However from the battlements of the ancient wall here you will have amazing views of Cefalu and its surrounding coastline. Go there at dusk and stay funtil dark, take a botlle of lovely Sicilian red and enjoy the view. Just follow the brown signs form the main street. You may have to pay 3 euros to get into the site and to climb the staircase (which passes some other archeological sites) to the top. Avois doing this in the midday heat of August.
The Harbour: Piazza Marina is picturesque and a great play to just sit and observe.
The Lavatoio: A Saracen wash house. Interesting place to spend a few minutes.
Osterio Magno: A medieval 13th Century palace, or at least the remaining parts of it.
The Aeolian Islands: In the summer you can catch a hydrofoil to the islands.
The beach: Of course the beach. Some would argue that the beach in Cefalu is one of the finest in Sicily. It has different sections. Some have chairs and umbrellas for rent for around 8 to 15 Euros.
